We see Obesity as a disease and is linked to several health consequences, including Type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms of being overweight & Obese

Obesity Symptoms
Breathlessness and Reduced Stamina
Many people experience shortness of breath even with minimal exertion, as excess weight can impact lung function and oxygen efficiency.
Fatigue and Low Energy
Being overweight often leads to reduced stamina and feelings of chronic fatigue due to the additional energy demands on the body.
Sleep Disturbances, Including Sleep Apnea
Carrying extra weight increases the risk of sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, which can disrupt sleep quality and leave one feeling unrested.
High Blood Pressure and Heart Palpitations
Extra body weight is closely linked to hypertension, which can lead to heart palpitations and increased strain on the cardiovascular system.
Mental Health Challenges
Being overweight can contribute to symptoms of low self-esteem, depression, and social anxiety, particularly in situations where one may feel judged.
Insulin Resistance and Blood Sugar Variability
Carrying extra weight, particularly in the abdomen, can contribute to insulin resistance, leading to erratic blood sugar levels, fatigue, and increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

The NHS uses BMI (Body Mass Index) to measure and calculate whether someone is a healthy weight for their height. They say for most adults, a BMI score of 25 - 29.9 is overweight and anything above is obese.

They say if you have an Asian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean family background you'll need to use a lower BMI score to measure overweight and obesity. 23.3 - 27.4 for overweight and anything in the above range is obese.

If you have a BMI of 28 or over, then you may be eligible for us to prescribe you with weight loss medication.

From our perspective….

Losing weight takes time, commitment and dedication. For some it may seem easier to lose weight, and we understand it’s important to focus on yourself and your own journey.

On the market there are some diet’s which report to work well having quick results, with the impact of them being un-sustainable or not feeling well. ‘Try this diet to lose fat fast!’ -  We consider these a ‘Yo-Yo-diets’. After the diet is over, where is the direction for sustaining the results?

A guide to follow for a short duration, missing out other key factors to promote sustainable success. These guides may be okay for some, who choose not to look at the bigger picture.

Achieving sustainable weight loss is like nurturing a garden. A garden needs consistent care, including regular watering, the right amount of sunlight, and thoughtful pruning, to thrive over time. In the same way, your body thrives on balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and healthy habits to support long-term health. Quick fixes, such as crash diets, might give immediate results, but they rarely last. It’s like flooding a garden with water all at once but neglecting it afterward. By focusing on gradual, sustainable changes, you can build a healthier lifestyle that supports your well-being towards healthy ageing.

Our focus is the long term.

For others there may be other reasons why losing weight is difficult, from being unsure of diet or exercise, lifestyle, to motivation, an underlying health problem to name a few.

To lose weight and maintain a healthy body is not easy for everyone, and important factors come down to having knowledge of what to eat, how much and how often, to exercise and lifestyle.

Weight Loss medication is not necessary for everyone wanting to lose weight, but it definitely can help with proven results. You can speak with one of our local GMC-Registered Doctors for a Free Consultation to explore if this is the right path for you.

Whichever route you go, if you’re eligible for the medication or choose not to, we can help you on your journey. From losing weight, to reaching your goals, to sustaining your results or to realign your goals later on, we want to help you along the way.
